Celebrating Business Owners and Business Ownership

While not all business owners are Impact Capitalists, all Impact Capitalists are business owners. The impact capitalist-business owner is not trying to cure the world’s ills or use political influence to gain an advantage. These business owners are making a positive impact on the people around them, every day, whether they realize it or not.

And for this, these business owners should be celebrated.

Many small and medium sized businesses make for one huge economy

More than 99% of all businesses in the United States are run by small business owners (U.S. Small Business Administration). Small business owners provide more than 57% of all of the jobs in the United States (United States Small Business Association Office of Advocacy). Small business owners create 75% of all new jobs (U.S. Small Business Administration).

And for this, these small business owners should be celebrated

70% of small businesses are owned and operated by a single person. These business owners have chosen to rely on themselves to earn a living and take care of themselves and their family. These business owners are not relying on anyone to provide for them a job. They are working for themselves. These business owners know that they have to make a difference in the lives of, and add value to, their customers or clients every day or they won’t have those customers or clients.

And for this, these business owners should be celebrated.

Making an impact is not only about changing the world. Making an impact is about making a meaningful difference in the lives of other people. Being an Impact Capitalist is about using business ownership to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, every day.

And for this, Impact Capitalists should be celebrated.

How are impact capitalists celebrated?

  1. telling the stories of impact capitalists
  2. providing a community where they can share, encourage, and, hopefully, work with one another
  3. providing resources to help them understand, manage, protect, and grow their businesses and personal resources

We are celebrating the people getting it done every day, without the glitz and glam, cover stories, or TV interviews.

Sure, everyone wants more money; some want fame and adulations.

It is a pretty special feeling to be in a situation when people are cheering for you because of something good that you’ve done.

The reality of life is such that business owners – literally 99.9% of them – go to work, every day, all day (and sometimes at night) and no one is there to ask them for an interview or give them an award.

The business owners that we’re celebrating are not necessarily the “rock star” CEOs or founders of high flying tech firms in Silicon Valley (although, they could be impact capitalists, too). Nor is this celebration for those focused on trying to “change the world” in developing or third world economies.

This celebration is for the people that make the world go: the business owners that make life easier, more efficient, and better.

In other words, we’re celebrating you!

To your success!
